Vampires of Yesterday and Today
Vampires with their seductive charm and sex appeal have entertained and fascinated our imaginations for decades. There was a time, when most vampires were a mere reincarnation of the most famous of all vampires, Count Dracula. Always the king of his castle, Dracula wore a flowing black cape, fancy attire and slicked back hair. He was a predator of the night and always a gentleman, the epitome of forbidden desire. Most vampires in the earlier days had no reflection and could not enter ones home without proper invitation. They would use the power of seduction to lure their victims to them, feed and at times; enslave them as their vampire brides. Even then, the vampires had an air of romance about them and it hid their unpredictable, deadly nature.
Today’s vampires are ever-changing, evolving creatures with an array of outstanding physical powers and abilities. They read minds, predict the future, effect emotions, heal human ailments with their blood, and can crush a skull with one finger. In the modern world, imaginations run wild, and vampires are portrayed in many different shades and textures. Some glow and shimmer, while others have the cold gray appearance of death warmed over. The options are almost limitless in today’s techno-savvy world and our desire to explore the forbidden. Vampires can seduce people with liquid blue eyes which melt into pools of gold and silver when aroused. In current books and movies, many vampires travel at lightening fast speeds and they are on their victims in a heartbeat. Unlike the vampires of yesterday that would stalk their victims in a slow menacing dance. All of these inventive traits add a whole new level to the mysterious, pulsating nature and sexual appeal of the vampire race.
The mere tragedy of a once human heart being changed into a soul-less, blood thirsty monster makes for great story telling. It creates the opportunity to capture the hearts of readers and theater-goers all over the world. Audiences are left to wonder what the human soul is capable of. Is there good in vampires, can they be saved? If so, at what price or are they doomed to immortality forever. Stories about vampires are told over and over again in slightly different ways and rarely get old. Whether you prefer the classic-style vampires of the past, that transform into bats and fly off into the night, or you enjoy the colorful, vibrant diversity of the vampires of today, one thing is certain. Vampires are fascinating and will continue to ignite our senses, scare us to the core, and capture our hearts with their tragic nature for decades to come.
